Why the title can still look “clean”

Not all total loss vehicles receive a salvage or rebuilt brand; some states and insurers allow “owner retained” or similar scenarios where the title stays unbranded even after a total‑loss payout. Title branding rules vary by state, so an insurance total loss in the Carfax section doesn’t guarantee the physical title will say salvage, rebuilt, or junk.
